A day in the life of 1L.

Yesterday, we had a really busy day at school. We started the day with a Science lesson. We were learning about reflective materials. We had to test the material using a torch to see whether it was reflective or not. All the lights were off and the curtains drawn so it was really dark!
Next we had literacy, we were thinking about beginning, middle and ends of a story. We then wrote about the story of Tom Sweep. The children have loved watching the story of Tom Sweep. See if they can tell you the story at home.

After lunch we did Mathematics. The children are learning about division and sharing. They were learning how to find half and even quater of a number using sweets. They did really well with this activity.

After Maths we then had ICT. We have been learning about giving instructions to make a robot move and today we were using a new program on the laptop. The children had to give instructions to a lady bird or racing car to get it to move from one place to another.

It was tricky, but we had Mrs Dupree to give us a hand!

Well done 1L! What a busy day!

Billy Goats Gruff

The children have been reading Traditional Tales in literacy.
We read the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff. They then role played part of the story in groups. The children are fantastic actors and worked really hard. At the end of the lesson the children watched each others role plays.

Last week we started our topic on Light and Dark. We read 'The Owl who was afraid of the dark' and 'A Dark Dark Tale'.

We then investigated Dark in different ways. The children took turns in going into a dark area the classroom with torches.

We also had dark boxes filled with different toys that the children took turns in looking into. Without the torches they could not see the toys but with the torches they could identify what was inside the box learning that with out light we can not see.

Homes

We spent friday afternoon using lego to make model homes. The children had to decide with their partner what type of home they were going to make - house boat, flat, detached etc. Some children then spoke to the class about their homes. It was a very enjoyable hour and to stopped every one being worried about the assembly!

Well done to all of 1L for their fantastic assembly on Friday!

The children have been learning about characters this week. They have identified characters in the stories we have been reading. The children worked hard to draw their own characters. (mostly monsters!)

Here are the children enjoying their carrots at 'fruit time'.

Drama

Last week, we read the story 'Not now Bernard". The children had lots of fun working in groups to role play the story. They worked really hard and all the children worked hard and got into role!
